In China right now, young people are all about the 搭子 (dāzi) — an 'activity buddy' you pair up with for one specific thing: a lunch buddy, a gym buddy, a coffee buddy, a travel buddy. It's 'precise companionship, light socializing' — you do the thing together, then go your separate ways, no obligation to bare your souls. Behind it is a real feeling: many young people are time-rich but money-poor, a little lonely in a big city, and they want company without the heavy maintenance that friendship demands. As they put it, '搭子就是搭子，不用交心' (a dāzi is just a dāzi, no heart-to-heart needed) and '比朋友淡、比同事亲' (looser than a friend, closer than a coworker) — so people post '找个饭搭子一起吃' (looking for a lunch buddy to eat with) and just like that, they're a little less alone.

特种兵旅游 ("special-forces tourism") is how young Chinese people jokingly describe a new style of speedrun travel: cram eight sights into one day, sleep on a night train, run on instant noodles, and be back at your desk Monday morning. Pair it with 穷游 (budget travel) and you get a whole generation that is time-rich but money-poor, trading comfort for freedom and bragging rights. Part of it is simple economics — students and fresh grads have long weekends but empty wallets, so they post lines like "周末特种兵去了趟北京,一天打卡八个景点" and "穷游但快乐,时间比钱多." But part of it is emotional too: doing something a little reckless with friends or strangers from a hostel is a low-pressure way to feel alive and less alone, which is why so many end their exhausted posts with "累是累但值了."
