Tôn kính ngữ nâng cao

This theme trains you in the advanced sonkeigo (respectful language) that educated adults use in business and formal Japanese: applied 「お/ご~になる」 forms, the elevated 「~ておいでになる」, 「なさる」, and special honorific verbs such as 「召し上がる」, together with the crucial question of when double honorifics are acceptable and when they overreach. You will hear it in phrases like 「先生がご執筆になった論文は、学界に大きな反響を呼んでおります」, 「会長はこの問題の重要性を、誰よりも深く理解しておいでになる」, and 「冷めないうちに、どうぞ召し上がってください」. At N1 you also learn the fine line between accepted set expressions like 「お召し上がりになる」 and over-piled forms like 「ご覧になられる」 that sound excessive.

This theme covers the most refined humble language (kenjougo) of JLPT N1 — the register of formal speeches, business correspondence, ceremonies, and academic settings. You learn to lower yourself gracefully with ~させていただく, the elevated verbs 伺う・拝見・拝聴・拝借, the intensifiers ~の至り/~の限り, and the cushioning 恐縮ですが family. Notice how 「僭越ながら乾杯のご挨拶をさせていただきます」 softens taking initiative, how 「このような栄えある賞を賜り、感激の至りに存じます」 expresses overwhelming emotion, and how 「誠に恐縮ですが、締め切りを延ばしていただけないでしょうか」 makes a request maximally polite.

This theme teaches the elevated, formal written register of N1 Japanese — the language of business letters, ceremonies, condolences, and official notices. You will meet the humble opening 「謹んで新年のお慶びを申し上げます」, the reportive 由 as in 「近々ご栄転なさる由、心よりお慶び申し上げます」, purpose-marking べく as in 「顧客の信頼を回復すべく、経営陣は総辞職を決断した」, and closing formulas such as 「本日をもちまして、当店は五十年の営業に終止符を打つこととなりました」. These expressions rarely surface in casual speech; they belong to correspondence, public announcements, and formal address, where restraint and courtesy carry the meaning.
